KUCHING: Donating blood and saving a life symbolises a good deed done by donors especially on Sarawak Day.
President of Sarawak Human Development Organisation (PPIS) Manjeet Kaur Sidhu said it was on this basis that the organisation chose to held its blood donation campaign.
“It is reflective of the unity among all religions, races and the loving and caring nature among all Sarawakians to help out members of the society.
“Since this morning until 11 am, we have more than 50 donors (turning up) and we are targeting 100 bags (of blood donated) for this one-day event,” she added when met by reporters at the PPIS Blood Donation Campaign at Cityone Megamall here today.
She said the event was a collaboration by the organisation together with the Lions Club, Malaysia Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Stampin Branch and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank.
“We want to thank the Blood Bank for assisting us as today we really have a good response from our Sarawakian donors,” she said.
Meanwhile, a first-time donor, Adrian Kueb, 38 years from Bau said he was proud to donate his blood and help others especially during Sarawak Day.
“I choose this day to donate as it is a meaningful day for us Sarawakian. Today is a public holiday and it is also my free time from my work,” he said.
He added he will continue to donate blood whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Hazwani Abu Bakar, 30 who already donated 11 times since 2017 said that although she is afraid of needles, she chose to ignore her fears continue to donate blood.
“I choose Sarawak Day to donate blood this time because all this while I was busy with work, and with today being a public holiday, I have free time to attend this blood donation campaign,” she said.
