LAWAS: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) has taken another step forward with the launching of SE*Hebat Sarawak Blueprint.

The launching, which is part of an effort to bring about a more sustainable development of social enterprises and entrepreneurship in Sarawak, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan here.

Social Enterprises (SE) are businesses that focus on creating a positive impact to their community while at the same time, continuously generating profits to ensure their sustainability. SE has been garnering attention both locally and globally.

In fact, the Malaysian government has been consistently showing support towards this industry, since the inception of the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre – MaGIC (now known as MRANTi) in 2014 and most recently, the launch of Social Entrepreneurship Action Framework 2030 (SEMy2030) in April 2022.

Developed by SDEC, the SE*Hebat Sarawak Blueprint is part of an overall strategy within the Sarawak Digital and Innovation Ecosystem with the ultimate goal of developing more community centric ecosystem and impactful businesses in Sarawak.

Currently, Sarawak makes up about 7 per cent of Social Enterprises in Malaysia.

But Sarawak has the potential to become a powerhouse for Social Enterprises in the country, and toward this end the SE*Hebat Sarawak Blueprint is expected to help steer Sarawak towards that direction.

Awang Tengah who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) believes that Sarawak could be a prime model in the country for SEs especially with its resources, cultural diversity and strong sense of kinship.

“Thus, I encourage new and existing entrepreneurs to explore a different way of doing your business and how being an SE could be your next journey,” he added.

The SE*Hebat Sarawak Blueprint is endorsed by MINTRED and will serve as the primary reference for those interested in SEs in Sarawak, including individuals, businesses, and organisations.

The SE*Hebat Sarawak Blueprint can now be viewed and downloaded by the public, starting today via https://sehebat.sarawak.digital/ .
