KUCHING: The establishment of Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) has proven to be a pivotal complement to the government’s ongoing efforts to elevate healthcare services for the local community.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said that BMC’s establishment in 2013 is particularly timely, considering the increased patient load at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Without this effort, the people would not be able to access the best medical facilities and healthcare.

“Hence, the initiative of the private sector to establish a medical centre is something that is very much welcomed by the government,” he said at the BMC’s 10th anniversary dinner here yesterday (Nov 26).

Acknowledging the rising population in Kuching, he added that BMC not only addresses the current healthcare demands but also aligns with the high expectations of the residents.

Wee urged other private medical practitioners to emulate the BMC model by forming groups to establish and operate hospitals.

This, he believes, would contribute significantly to fulfilling the healthcare needs of the growing community.

“Over the past 10 years, BMC has become the epitome of private healthcare in Sarawak with the most Resident Consultants, the widest range of medical services and state-of-art medical facilities.

“Your commitment to innovation, patient care, and community engagement has not only improved the health and well-being of the people but, has also contributed significantly to the overall progress and development of our community,” he said.

Looking ahead, Wee expressed confidence that BMC will persist as a pillar of strength for the community, remain progressive and innovative in providing better care to the people.
