SIBU: The bodies of teenagers feared to have drowned in a river during a leisure activity near Durin town here on Friday have been discovered this morning (May 14).

According to Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the duo today was started at 7.30am within a 6-kilometre radius from the location they were reported missing.

“Both bodies were found by villagers. The first body was found at about 7.35am, while the second body was discovered around 8.15am.

“Both victims were later identified by their family members, and their bodies were handed over to the police.

“The teenagers were identified as Justin Siaw and Kong Wei Seng, both aged 15.

“The discovery ended the SAR operation, which entered its third day today,” he said in a statement.

Last Friday, the duo went for a dip in the river at about 5pm along with another friend.

Unfortunately, all three of them were swept away by the river’s current. However, one of them, who can swim, attempted to rescue the other two, but to no avail.
