KUCHING: Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia Sarawak branch (Pengasih Sarawak) under the auspices of Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur intends to work with certain quarters in the state to reduce drug abuse.

Pengasih Sarawak (an association for recovered drug addicts) was officially established on Nov 4 and its main objective is to combine energy and dynamism of former drug users.

“Pengasih also utilises recovered addicts to help other potential addicts to achieve recovery, in order to reduce the social impact of drug use in the community.

“Addiction rehabilitation treatment is a lengthy process. Former drug addicts need a strong support system in the community to stay clean from drug.

“With the establishment of Pengasih Sarawak, former addicts who have undergone rehabilitation can participate in support activities from Pengasih Sarawak known as the ‘Aftercare Programme’,” it said in a statement today.

The association said it will also apply its invaluable experience in helping those affected by drugs.
