BINTULU: The body of a 52-year-old man, who drowned after falling into Sungai Murum in Belaga on Saturday afternoon, was found at 11.30am on Sunday.

Johny Mering’s body was floating some 200 metres from the spot where he was reported missing at 2.25pm on Saturday. 

A search and rescue (SAR) team was immediately mounted to look for Johny upon receiving the report lodged by an eye witness, Mabong Jawa.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO), the body has been handed over to the police for further action.

The SAR team comprised four Bintulu firemen led by the operation commander PBK II Winston Tan, three police personnel, three Civil Defence force (APM) personnel and 30 nearby villagers.
