Body of missing 10-year-old boy found

The victim's body was retrieved and taken to the Kampung Hilir jetty to be handed over to the police for further action.

KAPIT: The body of a 10-year-old boy reported missing last Friday (Aug 5), was found on Today (Aug 8).

Off-duty firefighters who were fishing near Kampung Bedil in Kanowit, found the body belonging to Jenggut Antas floating in the river.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department said the distance from the incident’s location and the body’s discovery was about 84km.

The body was retrieved and taken to the Kampung Hilir jetty to be handed over to the police for further action.

The boy’s father confirmed that it was his son, based on the clothes worn at the time of the incident.

Following the discovery, the operation was called off at 4pm.

Earlier, the incident happened when the victim together with his parents and sibling, were on a boat going to Kapit town.

While en route, the boat’s engine suffered a problem, causing the boat to drift and collide with an anchored barge before sinking.

The victim’s family managed to swim to the riverbank, however, Jenggut could not be found.

This prompted the family to contact rescue agencies for assistance.
