Body of missing army veteran found floating

The victim’s body found afloat in Batang Skrang, was successfully retrieved by rescuers early this morning (Feb 5).

BETONG: The body of an army veteran reported missing after falling from a boat while fishing at Batang Skrang, Kampung Lidong Betong on Thursday (Feb 3), was found floating on Saturday (Feb 5).

The victim identified as Baki Nyambong, 49, was found by the public in Daru area around 8.40am.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the body was floating about 50 metres from where the victim fell.

Following the discovery, rescuers were quickly alerted and deployed to the scene to retrieve the body.

The victim’s body was brought to the search and rescue (SAR) control post and handed over to the police for further action.

On Thursday evening, the victim went fishing with his brother on separate boats, about 1km from their longhouse.

The victim’s brother informed that he saw Baki had fallen into the river and did not surface after a while thus, prompting the brother to call for help from the villagers.
