KANOWIT: A local fisherman, reported missing since Sunday, was found dead in Sungai Majau here early today (Dec 4).

Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba)chief Andy Alie confirmed the discovery of Mohammad Rafiq Abdullah, 50, by locals around 6 am, approximately 70 metres from his last known location.

“The body’s recovery led to the conclusion of the search and rescue operation at 9.10 am,” Andy said.

He further mentioned that the police have taken custody of the body for necessary procedures.

The initial report of Mohammad Rafiq’s disappearance was made to Bomba by the Kanowit police on Sunday at 10 pm. A family member said that Abdullah had left for fishing in Sungai Majau at about 8 am and did not return by his usual time, 5 pm.

Concerned for his well-being, Mohammad Rafiq’s nephew filed a missing person report with the police.
