Body of missing man found drifting in Sg Bidut

Bomba photos show rescuers bringing the victim’s body to the family for confirmation.

SIBU: The body of a 25-year-old man who allegedly fell from Lanang Bridge into Rajang River on Monday (Jan 30), has been found by the public today (Feb 1).

Sibu fire station chief Suna Kaha said the body of Amirzaman Alam was spotted drifting in Sungai Bidut at around 12.15 pm.

Rescuers who were alerted immediately went to the scene, some 10km from Lanang Bridge, to retrieve the body and brought it to Arang Wharf.

The victim’s family confirmed the body was that of Amirzaman who fell from the bridge into Rajang River on Monday evening.

His body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Following that, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off.

Earlier, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that they received a missing person’s report from the victim’s friend around 7.40 pm on Monday.
