TANJUNG MANIS: The body of the second fisherman, who was reported missing with another fisherman after their boat capsized near Belawai Beach on Saturday (June 13), has been found.

A spokesperson from the State Fire and Rescue Department stated that the body of Elfika Ahmad, 29, was found floating at Sungai Bako, Tanjung Jerijih on Monday morning (June 15) around 8.30am.

The search and rescue (SAR) personnel brought the body to the victim’s brother for identification. After that, it was handed over to the police for further action.

The body of the first fisherman, Ibrahim Abang Resdi, 52, was found on Belawai beach on Sunday around 6.30am while the boat that he and Elfika had boarded was discovered about 1km from where it was last seen.

Earlier on Saturday, both men had gone fishing with 20 other fishermen in 10 separate boats. Their boat capsized occurred around 7.30pm.

While the other fishermen were safe, the boat carrying Ibrahim and Elfika went missing.

Bomba received a report on the incident around 9.29pm but the SAR operation could not be carried out due to heavy rain and heavy waves that night.

The SAR operation involving various agencies such as the police, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak, Civil Defence Force (APM), People Volunteer’s Corps (Rela) and local villagers, was called off around 10am on Monday after Elfika’s body was found.
