LAWAS: The body of a 24-year-old woman feared drowned in a river at Kampung Long Sukang on Saturday (July 10) was found on Monday (July 12).

The body of the victim, Rebecca John, was found in the river, some six kilometres away from where she was last seen, at about 11am.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said firemen were deployed to the scene to recover the body with the help of villagers.

The case has been classified as sudden death.

Rebecca was swept away by headwaters while collecting river pebbles with her sister-in-law, Jenny Paris, 24, on Saturday (July 10).

A search and rescue (SAR) operations was launched immediately following a lodged report pertaining to the incident.

The search on Monday (July 12) was divided into four sectors, and it covered an area from Sungai Long Sukang to Sungai Long Remirang.
