KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will equip its enforcement Officers with body-worn cameras for better efficiency and transparency.

The move is in line with Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian’s vision for the local government to enhance its services via digital technology.

In a statement on Monday, MBKS said it bought a set of body-worn cameras for its enforcement team with only recording features for trial usage at the end of last year.

The council added it bought more body cameras with more features such as “Live Recording” this year.

“This is part of the council’s proactive move to monitor the conduct of officers in the field. The recordings will be used as references or evidence should any untoward incident takes place. They will also increase the integrity, efficiency and transparency of the enforcement officers when dealing with the public.

“The council will fully enforce the use of body-worn cameras for its enforcement team by May 2021 and they will be launched by Dr Sim,” it said.
