SARATOK: Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) aims to create a greater awareness on fire prevention to ensure that its fire safety message reaches out to the rural folk.

Station chief Nik Mohd Afiq Nik Roslan, when met at an event here yesterday, said that this was important to prevent more fires involving structures or longhouses from recurring.

He revealed that in the past year, the station recorded 30 cases of structural fires resulting in losses of more than RM10 million.

“A total of 196 property related fires with losses of RM198,200 were reported as well as six cases of longhouse fires.

“Therefore, we are committed to raising awareness especially in longhouses through the ‘Bomba Komuniti’ programme in addition to running a safety awareness activity at the school-level,” he said at a rank promotion ceremony at Saratok Fire and Rescue Station.

At the function, 30 members were promoted, of whom 12 were from Saratok fire station and nine were from Betong and Sri Aman fire stations respectively.
