KUCHING: Fire seems to be the order of the day the last couple of days.

A swiftlet farmhouse at Jalan Kampung Semera Laut here was destroyed in a 1.40am fire yesterday.

Firefighters from the Asajaya fire station were rushed to the scene upon receiving a report of the incident.

The farmhouse, measuring 20×40 feet, was 80 per cent destroyed.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the firefighters had difficulty getting to the farmhouse because of the narrow clay road.

A four-wheel drive vehicle was quickly mobilised to the area and the fire was doused using a Godiva fire pump.

No injuries and casualties were reported in the incident.

In Sri Aman, a Friday night fire partially damaged a secondary school hall here.

Firefighters from the Sri Aman fire station were rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.36pm of a fire at SMK Simanggang.

A spokesperson from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said according to the operation commander the fire was brought under control at 11.25pm with no casualties reported.

The affected area only involved the 20 per cent of the stage.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, nine firemen from Tatau fire station led by PBT Jankey Jikat were deployed to the scene after responding to an alert at 11.30am.

By the time they arrived the fire was already put out by the longhouse dwellers.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

In Miri, three fire engines from Miri and Lopeng fire stations were deployed to Tudan Phase 6 on Friday night to help extinguish a fire that engulfed a vacant house.

The team rushed to the scene after receiving a distressed call at 7.14pm but by the time the firefighters arrived the house was already beyond saving.

The firemen, however, managed to contain the fire from spreading to other houses.

In all incidents, the fire department is still investigating the cause(s) of the fires.
