KUCHING: State fire and rescue chief Datuk Khirudin Drahman took time out on Saturday to bring primary children up to speed on fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire.

He said children aged seven to 12 are in a critical phase of their development and thus can absorb knowledge on fire safety.

“We want to ensure the students understand the importance of fire safety and are able to act in the event of a fire,” he said at the Bomba Sarawak and Sarawak Energy CSR Programme at Batu Lintang Fire Station here.

“I am very pleased that 50 students from five schools were able to come today, allowing us to share about fire safety.

“Once you go back to school, please communicate back with the Fire and Rescue Department so we can organise further programmes such as these to educate more students regarding the importance of fire safety and essential precautions,” he said.
