KUCHING: Some 400 participants recently took part in the first Borneo Dragon Back Ultra 2020 (BDBU2020) run held at the Borneo Highlands, Padawan.

The runners came from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa, Italy, France, and the United States.

The run was divided into three categories – 70km, 50km and 25km; the first two were considered “ultra” runs (more than 42km in distance).

The runners started their runs from Dewan Persatuan Biannah at the foothills of the Borneo Highlands.

Assistant Minister of Transport and Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil flagged off the runs.

He hoped there would be more such events in the future to promote Padawan, its culture and natural beauty.

Race director Josh Tan said BDBU aimed to be the toughest road ultra event in Malaysia with the rolling hills of Borneo Highlands having an elevation of more than 2,000 feet for the 50km run and about 3,000 feet for the 70km run along with the heat, humidity and rain.
