Borneo Jazz Festival, RWMF garner large following online

KUCHING: The Borneo Jazz Festival (BJF) has set a record, with viewers from over 33 countries tuning in to its 16th edition from June 25 to 27.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said on Monday (June 28) that more than 116,000 viewers connecting to the BJF website and social media platforms as well as TVS and Shopee Live.

Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah pointed out that the event had helped raise Miri’s profile since its inception.

He was proud to see how BJF had found its way to a much broader audience and provided Sarawakian artistes with an even bigger platform to showcase their musical talents.

“This year’s BJF, themed Borneo Jazz Memories: A Virtual Journey, ran for three days and saw Sarawakian artistes in pre-recorded sessions, in between interviews with seasoned jazz veterans like Singapore’s ‘King of Swing’ and Asia’s Jazz Superstar Jeremy Monteiro, Dave Brewer of Dave and the Doodaddies as well as John Hammond.”

Meanwhile, the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) saw some 140,000 viewers from 80 countries tuning in to the RWMF website and social media platforms as well as TVS and Shopee Live.

“The number of viewers from around the world is a testament to how well-loved and relevant these iconic events are.

“We are very happy to be able to reach out to fans on their individual screens, and we hope to see the end of the pandemic soon so that we can continue to bring more value-added entertainment to them.

“Next year’s festival, tentatively scheduled for June 17 to 19, will be especially meaningful as we will be holding the 25th edition. We hope to be able to celebrate its silver jubilee in a grand way,” said Abdul Karim.

Viewers were able to watch performances, interviews and flashbacks as well as engage with other viewers throughout both the 90-minute events on www.rwmf.net and www.jazzborneo.com

Viewers could also enjoy the shows on TVS, BJF’s official broadcast partner, or on Shopee Live as well as order food and receive discounts on GrabFood, the official delivery partner.

“With Shopee named as the official e-commerce partner, the virtual experiences of both RWMF and BJF were streamed via Shopee Live, allowing millions of households across the country to enjoy the showcases from the comfort of their own homes.

STB opened an official store on Shopee to feature merchandise from RWMF and BJF. This included limited edition T-shirts, batik linut face masks, printed batik face masks, and other attractive products.
