BINTULU: An 11-year-old boy died while four others were injured in a car-lorry crash at Jalan Pesisir Bintulu-Miri last Sunday (May 29).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Bingkok John, in a statement, said the boy, identified as Micheal Tyson Unding Ngelai, succumbed to his injuries at 5.45 pm while receiving treatment at the Bintulu Hospital.

The other four victims in the car with the boy were two children aged seven and eight, a 46-year-old woman and the 52-year-old driver.

They are still receiving treatment for their injuries.

“Investigation found that prior to the accident at 3.30 pm, both vehicles were travelling in the same direction — from Samalaju to Bintulu town – on the left and right lanes respectively.

“Suddenly, the lorry switched lane from left to right, causing the car to crash into the lorry. The car skidded to the opposite lane before crashing into a ditch,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
