MIRI: A six-year-old boy died from injuries sustained after the four-wheel drive (4WD) he was travelling in with his parents collided head on with another car this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Aiden Chiang Yong Jun.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident happened at KM17 Miri Coastal Road around 8 am.
“Preliminary investigation showed that the 4WD had swerved head on into the Perodua Alza which came from the opposite lane,” added Alexson.
Three of the 4WD’s passengers, including the boy, were thrown out of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, seven other people – from both vehicles – were injured and taken to the Miri Hospital for further treatment.
Prior to the fatal crash, the boy’s family was heading towards Miri from Bekenu while the Perodua Alza was heading in the opposite direction.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Transport Act 1987.
