SELANGAU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tamin Branch chief, Meyu Beruang has refuted claims the party was pinching members from component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Meyu pointed out that the rumour came about because they have been active in recruiting new members to join the PBB branch.

“We are taking in people who are not registered members of other GPS components.

“So far we have not ‘stolen’ members of other component parties but recruited those who are not members of any party or from the opposition party,” he stressed when speaking at the inauguration of two new branches – PBB Ranting Sungai Melinau Selangau and PBB Ranting Dijih Tamin recently.

Meyu added that his branch has also initiated a ‘rehabilitation’ programme for members from the opposition parties who wished to return to strengthen GPS.

“Our action is to reduce the members of the opposition party in the Tamin state constituency, if possible, we want there to be no opposition in the Selangau Parliamentary constituency so that GPS candidate can win without contesting in the 15th general election,” he stressed. In this regard, Meyu assured that the

branch will give solid support to the GPS candidate who will be nominated to contest in the Selangau Parliamentary seat in GE15.

“I hope that the candidate who will contest under GPS will be able to help the people of Selangau impartially and always be fair in providing services to the people,” he said.

Touching on the launch of the two new branches, Meyu said that its purpose was to further expand the PBB wing in Tamin constituency as well as facilitate the task of recruiting new members in their area.

At the launch of the two new branches, Nyawin Judi and Rubaidi Rosli won unopposed as head of Dijih Tamin Branch and Sungai Melinau Selangau Branch respectively.

To date, there are more than 4,000 PBB members in the Tamin state constituency following the creation of the new branches in the PBB Tamin.
