Brave Mukah dozen to represent S’wak

MUKAH: Twelve Mukah taekwondo athletes will represent Sarawak in the National Women Sport Challenge 2019 in KLSC, Bukit Jalil, Selangor this weekend (Oct 12).

They are students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Patrick (three), SMK Three Rivers (eight) and a Management Science University student (former SMK St Patrick student).

Nur Izyan, Arwa Nadirah and Elfyie Shazriyeena are representing SMK St Patrick. No names are available for the other nine athletes.

Mukah coach Zaidi Morshidi said the tournament is held in conjunction with annual National Sports Day on Oct 10.

According to him, only Mukah will send a team from Sarawak to the tournament. However, he declined to set any target for the team.

The team will leave for KLSC, Bukit Jalil on Friday and return on Sunday.

Zaidi, who is also SMK St Patrick’s Parents and Teachers Association chairman, has been coaching the students here for over five years.

Lately, his son, who is a former SMK St Patrick student, Muhammad Syahmin Afiq also assisted in the training sessions.

The black belt assistant junior coach will accompany his father to KLSC, Bukit Jalil.
