SRI AMAN: The Batang Lupar 2 bridge project is expected to be ready in April 2025 as part of plans to complete the Second Trunk Road and the Coastal Road network in Sarawak.
According to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development), Aidel Lariwoo, several road construction packages connecting with the Batang Lupar 2 bridge project will complement the entire project.
“The package involves Project Package B2a (Proposal to Upgrade the Main Road in Bandar Sri Aman), Package B2 Phase One (Road Construction from Jalan Kejatau to Batang Lupar Bridge 2 including the Route to Bandar Sri Aman) and Package B2 Phase two (Construction of Road Intersection from Lingga Bridge to Lingga Town).
“The Batang Lupar 2 bridge project is only part of completing the network of our Second Trunk Road and Coastal Road.
“There are several other packages that connect this bridge and it means that if this bridge is ready and the others are not then it would not make any sense.
“Therefore, we will also construct a connecting road namely package B4, from Lidong to Betong Interchange Pan Borneo along nearly 28 kilometers,” he said.
He said this during a work visit to the Batang Lupar 2 bridge construction site meeting room here, recently.
Aidel explained that Package B2 Phase 1 which connects the bridge to a series of roads in Sri Aman has been approved to prevent road users from going through nearby village roads and is expected to be implemented in the third quarter of this year.
Aidel is satisfied with the steps taken by the contractor to complete the project according to the set schedule despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
