KUCHING: A driver cheated death but sustained serious injuries after his car crashed into a concrete pillar under the Satok Suspension Bridge at the Jalan Satok-Kulas Interchange today.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the 26-year-old was trapped in his seat in the 9.20 am accident.

Firemen from Padungan station were promptly deployed to the scene to extricate the victim using a hydraulic rescue cutter.

Once freed, the victim was quickly rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for immediate treatment. It was reported that the victim sustained severe injuries to his face.

The rescue team wrapped up their operation around 10.05 am.
