Bridge’s beam collapses

MUKAH: The beam of Jambatan Kuning which spans the Mukah River has collapsed after it was hit by a barge carrying a crane early this morning.

According to Mukah Division acting Resident Safrie Saili who was at the scene, there were no casualties during the incident.

“I have advised the public at the scene to come to the Mukah police station to lodge a report,” he said.

Following the incident, TOUCH N GO announced that a follow-up action has been put in place.

Its spokesperson Ibrahim Yusuf advised river users, especially small boats, to not go through directly under the collapsed beam for their own safety.

He also appealed to the public to not wander, damage, remove or steal the signboards for the safety of all.

“I really hope that this does not happen again. For this incident, TOUCH N GO had lodged a police report.

“It is hoped that the perpetrators are willing to come forward and cooperate,” he added.
