MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo briefed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg of the projects proposed for his constituency during a ‘Leader with the People’ event here on Monday.

Yussibnosh said he had already discussed the river bank protection project with Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA).

According to him, the project, covering an area from the mouth of the Tellian River to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) jetty, measures about 1.5km long and is estimated to cost between RM60 and RM70 million.

Yussibnosh said it was proposed based on the design of the Limbang Riverfront project and would be implemented in two phases.

“The project will help prevent riverbank erosion near a main road as well as Masjid Jamek nearby so we urged the Sarawak government to consider it,” he said in his welcoming speech during a Leader with the People event at Dewan Suarah Mesra here on Monday night. Abang Johari was the guest of honour at the event.

Yussibnosh said the second proposed project was village extension for the second phase as the first phase had been implemented in that particular area.

The assemblyman also mentioned the proposed extension to Dewan Suarah Mesra to increase its current capacity of about 700 people.

He said the extension, which would involve the rear part of the building, was estimated to cost about RM5 million.

Yussibosh also brought up a proposal by the Catholic community here to build a new St Anthony’s Chapel in Kampung Tellian Daya.

He added the proposed RM5 million project was for the attention of Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
