TEBEDU: Students from the B40 group who excel in their studies have the opportunity to pursue their studies at international secondary schools under Yayasan Sarawak.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said there are five Yayasan Sarawak international secondary schools are located in Petra Jaya, Semenggoh, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu, which accommodate students from the rural areas.

He advised students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tebedu to excel in their studies and seize the opportunities provided by the government.

“Those who enter the schools (international secondary schools) will receive sponsorships to further their education at renowned universities.

“Full boarding facilities are also provided in the schools for students who qualify from Form One to Form Five,” the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) quoted him saying when he officiated at the 10th SMK Tebedu Sports Championship held at Tebedu Mini Stadium on Wednesday (Sept 21).

Dr Sinang stressed the importance of co-curricular activities which can be a platform to hone students’ talents and at the same time help them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Sports can prevent students from engaging in unhealthy activities outside school such as smoking, consuming alcoholic drinks and drug abuse,” he added.
