KUCHING: Sarawak Tech Companies were invited to attend a Business Networking Event facilitated by Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) in partnership with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).

The event aims to provide Sarawak based businesses in expanding their business opportunities by leveraging on partnerships with established tech companies.

This was to enable Sarawak’s technology and innovation to be adopted regionally so that it may expand its presence and support.

During the networking session, the participants were briefed by Lester Matthew from the Economic Planning Unit on Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, as well as a tour of Sarawak’s Digital Roadmap by Hazwan Razak, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation.

“This is an excellent platform for bringing together business owners from all industries to collaborate and inspire future collaboration for a stronger economy,” Hazwan said in a statement.

Meanwhile, MDEC Chief Digital Industry Officer, Digital Ecosystem Enablement Division, Gopi Ganesalingam, outlined the various support and intervention programmes by the agency in catalysing and expanding the growth of tech companies in Malaysia such as its GAIN (Gateway, Amplify, Invest and Nurture) Programme.

The event proceeded with local business owners introducing their companies and businesses to expand their relationships, particularly in the field of digital and innovation.

Among the established tech companies present include representatives from ipay88, Chan Kok Long, Choo Yan Tiee from AutoCount Sdn Bhd, Jeffrey Fok from FINEXUS Asia Sdn Bhd, Ravi Vamathevan from Merchantrade Asia Sdn Bhd, Alan See from Firmus, Rathakrishnan Arumugam from LAWI Engineering, Dato’ Sri Leo Ariyanayakam from Scicom, Eric Chong from Boost Biz Axiata Digital eCode, Rina Neoh from Ficus Group Capital and Roy Yu from Huawei Cloud Malaysia.

SDEC is a company that is wholly owned by the State Government of Sarawak under the purview of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to spearhead Sarawak’s digital economy initiatives and transform Sarawak into a Digital Economy Powerhouse. Established in January 2018 its main objectives are to revolutionise Sarawak’s economy and industries as well as to spur socioeconomic growth and advancement.
