KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the fasting month of Ramadan, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg took the opportunity to break fast together with Sarawakians in Semenanjung Malaysia.

The ‘Sungkei Ngan Abang Jo’ programme took place at the Four Seasons Hotel here.

Besides strengthening community ties, it also aimed to bring students of higher learning institutions (IPTs) from Sarawak under the sponsorship of the Sarawak government and the Sarawak Foundation to break fast together.

Several students who attended the programme hereby shared the benefits of the programme:

I want to thank the organisers for giving students the opportunity to gather in a programme like this. Such programmes enable students from various IPTs who are studying in Semenanjung Malaysia to unite, get to know each other and share their experiences of studying here. I hope it will be continued next year. The presence of the Premier makes it more meaningful.

Through this programme, Sarawakian students are able to strengthen ties with each other. Many Sarawak students are studying outside the state but do not have the opportunity to be acquainted.

Even though some of us are studying at the same campus, we still don’t have the opportunity to meet and spend time together. This programme unites students from all over Sarawak and we look forward to getting to know each other better.

This programme which gathers students in one place is good. As everyone is aware, many students have to stay away from their families in order to gain knowledge.

This programme provides an opportunity for students to make friends with others from various IPTs. In addition, they can also make plans to return to their villages together if they happen to live near each other.
