KUCHING: The Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum will be declared open by next year.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the matter has been long awaited following the temporary halt of construction works before.

“God willing in 2023, we will inaugurate the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum. We have been waiting for this moment for a long time.

“The construction work of the museum also had to be stopped before following the discovery of heritage items. It has also caused the process to be a little slow,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Sarawak Heritage Council Meeting No. 2/2022 at the Mulu Meeting Room, in the Baitulmakmur II Building, here, today.

He added that the people of Sarawak will also witness the launch of the Sri Aman Museum next year and in line with the 50th anniversary of the Sri Aman Declaration signed in 1973.

“It is important for the young generation to know the declaration because achieving that is not an easy thing,” he said.

In the meantime, he informed that his party is also working to open to the public three ancient treasure sites in Santubong – the heritage sites of Sungai Jaong Archaeological Park, Bongkissam Archaeological Park and Bukit Maras.

“In addition, there is also the Wallace Centre in Santubong and various historical places there including the old Hindu Kuik and many more,” he explained.
