BUKIT BEGUNAN: Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang presented a RM10,000 grant to the Rumah Gendi Village Security and Development Committee and RM3,000 to the longhouse Women’s Bureau.

The presentation ceremony took place during a meet-the-people-session at Rumah Gendi, Sungai Semilang here.

Mong also disclosed that effective June 2018, the allowances of community leaders and “tuai rumahs” (longhouse chieftains) are paid by the state government.

Appointment of “tuai rumah”, on the other hand, is done by a Selection Panel made up of community leaders and headed by the respective Resident.

On a separate issue, Mong said the Sarawak government would continue to fight for the rights of the state and its people in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

On the revenue from the sales tax imposed on oil and gas, he said the money would be used to fund development programmes in the state, especially in the rural and remote areas.
