KUCHING: The ongoing haze affecting the Air Pollutant Index (API) around Sri Aman has prompted Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis to see for himself the area which is burning along the road of Kampung STC and Taman Harmoni Sri Aman.

Harden, accompanied by his wife Datin Simba Nalang, made the visit on Monday.

He noted that the fire was still going on and Sri Aman fire department had personally briefed him on it.

While going along the road, he saw a pile of trash at one of the bends, making it seem like a dumping ground.

The trash was scattered about while the fire continued burning and emitting heavy smoke.

He requested the Sri Aman District Council (MDSA) to monitor the area and take appropriate action to stop the illegal dumping.

With regards to haze, Sri Aman recorded the highest reading of 367 (hazardous) yesterday at 9am.

Harden advised the public not to do open burning. He also urged them to take care of their health by limiting outdoor activities, drinking sufficient water and using face masks when leaving the houses.

“For those with asthma, get ready the relevant medication,” he said.
