KUALA LUMPUR : Bursa Malaysia remained lower  mid-afternoon session with the key index remaining in the negative territory, weighed down by continuous profit taking in selected index-linked counters.

At 3 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 14.45 points weaker at 1,687.67 from yesterday’s close of 1,702.12.

Market breadth was negative with losers outnumbering gainers 478 to 229 while 341 counters were unchanged, 852 untraded and 25 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.25 billion shares worth RM993.82 million.

Among heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM9.51, Public Bank fell 38 sen to RM24.80, Petronas Chemicals and CIMB slipped nine sen each to RM8.43 and RM5.68, respectively while TNB declined eight sen to RM13.62.

Of actives, Bumi Armada earned half-a-sen to 22 sen, V.S Industry rose one sen to 79.5 sen, Sapura Energy was flat at 28 sen while Bina Puri shed two sen to 26 sen.

The FBM Emas Index was 98.29 points lower at 11,642.97, the FBMT 100 Index decreased 97.22 points to 11,530.28, the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 97.71 points to 11,545.19, the FBM 70 lost 108.48 points to 13,620.16 and the FBM Ace fell 30.05 points to 4,411.37.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index declined 108.79 points to 17,516.63, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 1.83 points to 161.21 while the Plantation Index slipped 20.30 points to 7,222.49. – Bernama
