Bushfire rages near army camp

Firemen, assisted by army personnel, working hard to put out the fire.

MIRI: Firefighters from Miri Fire Station on Thursday rushed to Sri Miri Army Camp to protect the camp’s barracks from a raging bushfire.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong, six firemen in a fire engine and an Emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) vehicle dashed to the scene in response to an alert about the bushfire at around 10am.

The army camp is located about 10km from the fire station.

It burnt at about 1.5 hectares of land within the camp’s compound.

The firefighters managed to put out the fire after about two hours.
