KUCHING: The business community has welcomed the recent announcement by Election Commission (EC) that Nov 19, which falls on Saturday, is the polling date for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Bell Bernard Aggan

Treasurer of Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Bell Bernard Anggan said that it was fine by him as the economy would improve as usual.

When asked on the concern that the monsoon season was predicted to begin on Nov 15, four days before the polling day, he said he hoped and prayed that the weather would be fair during the polling day.

“I’m sure the Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) is ready for any possibilities, but we just hope and pray for the best,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune via phone call.

Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan

Meanwhile chairman of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan said polling day on Nov 19 should be okay, considering that most people are not working during the weekend.

On the other hand, he felt that it was hard to predict the weather but he was hoping that it would also be good.

“There has been an election in the past in which there were severe floods actually, but that was only in several parts in Sarawak.

“Whatever happens, I hope that they (voters) can come out on that day to cast their ballot,” he added.
