MUKAH: The business community here welcomes the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday.

Most described the plan as a ‘lifeline’ to the economy considering the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order (MCO) had on the country since March 18.

Kapitan Kong Boon Eong described the plan as good because it would succeed in stimulating the national economy.

He added the plan was necessary because Covid-19 pandemic has not been fully contained yet, thus, still posed a threat to the people and country.

“What is equally important is racial unity and political stability while the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.

Another local businessman who is in the furniture and hardware business, welcomed the plan, saying it would provide the catalysts for the national economy to recover.

He suggested that procedures to obtain certain assistance provided under the plan be simplified.

“If we are required to apply for assistance under the plan, I hope the procedures are not sophisticated, instead, be flexible a bit,” he added.

Car repair workshop owner Man Arena, 41, hoped to see the plan benefits many sectors including his business.

He, however, made no comment about the plan, instead, focused on getting his business back on track. He has been in the business for 10 years.
