KUCHING: The government is intensifying its ‘Buy Malaysian Goods’ (BMG) and ‘Sayangi Sawitku’ campaigns.

Towards this end, the Department of Information (JaPen) Sarawak is taking the initiative to hold briefings for department officers on the campaigns.

The programme aims to elaborate on BMG by providing relevant information to facilitate the officers in delivering the information at the community level.

JaPen officers recently attended a briefing on the campaigns. The BMG briefing was presented by business development senior assistant director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Redzuan Jaris, while the ‘Sayangi Sawitku’ campaign was presented by Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) communications manager Suzana Datuk Mohamed Dahan.

Several district information officers who attended the briefings expressed confidence in disseminating information obtained through the briefings.

Tatau district information officer Nor Hidayah Ismail said that such briefings can facilitate her duty in disseminating government policies to residents around Tatau.

“For me, as a new district information officer, attending this briefing on the BMG campaign is an opportunity not to be missed,” she added.

She said such briefings could provide relevant information on the campaigns for them to disseminate to the people.

Meanwhile, Bintulu district information officer Pauline Sating remarked, “Attending this talk hosted by the department is a good opportunity because the information gained is very useful and can be widely disseminated at the district level.”

Pauline added that although now information is at the tip of one’s fingers, brochures still play an important role and she hoped these could be used sufficiently to facilitate speakers at the grassroots level to understand more deeply about government policies and campaigns.

“It is well-known that Internet coverage in the rural areas is still poor, so it is still important to distribute brochures to the rural
people,” she stressed.

For Serian district information officer George Humprey Dolek, the briefings were very helpful to him to present government policies.  On the BMG campaign, George stated that one of his efforts to make the campaign successful was to introduce local black pepper products.

He said the ‘Sepakat’ programme hosted by the department is a medium to help succeed BMG by promoting Malaysian-made black pepper products.
