KUCHING: The defeat of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Tanjung Piai by-election was the coalition’s own doing.
Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said that Malaysians were capable of judging the performance of the new government for themselves.
“The defeat is PH’s own doing for having failed to fulfil their numerous election promises and manifestos,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Penguang added that the people were smart enough to analyse what PH had done to improve the economy and the nation’s position in the world market.
“The people have had enough of their inconsistent policies with no clear direction,” said the Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister, echoing the views of political analyst and University of Tasmania’s Asia Institute director Professor James Chin.
On Saturday, in a swift analysis of PH’s loss in the Tanjung Piai by-election, Chin said the swing against the coalition stems from the failure of DAP to fulfill its promises in last year’s general election.
“When the Chinese supported DAP almost 100% (in the 2018 general election) they expected the party to deliver on all their promises. They have made a stand against DAP. If you look at all the Chinese core issues, the DAP could not deliver anything,” he was quoted to have said by online news portal Free Malaysia Today.
