KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) is ready to mobilise its personnel to several hotspots in the state that are flood-prone.

Bomba director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said due to the current climate change, personnel had been deployed to monitor, evacuate and rescue those affected.

“The monitoring was done at certain stages to determine the water level and the amount of rainfall,” he said, adding that such measures were implemented during the floods that hit Baling, Kedah on July 4.

He was speaking to the media at the Sarawak Bomba headquarters here today.

When asked about the application developed for rapid response to fire and emergency incidents, he said Bomba had acquired a fire system that is C4i (command, control, communication, computer and intelligent).

He said the system was able to identify incidents before, during and after the fire, including calling the management, deployment of fire machinery and emergency services.

He added that the system is also capable of managing the logistics and movement of machinery to the scene.

“It is a step and our effort to ensure that our response time can be shortened further. The faster the response team arrives, the better.”

In light of this, he said Bomba also proposed the construction of smart fire stations. “This application is one of the components in creating a smart fire station. Other than that, it is also in line towards creating a smart city.”
