MIRI: Currently, a total of 949 taxi drivers, school bus and licenced van operators in the state have submitted their names for the RM600 one-off financial assistance from the Sarawak government under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 3.0, revealed Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin on Saturday.

“We are calling the remaining licenced taxi drivers, school bus operators and van operators to submit their names as soon as possible in order to receive the financial aid,” he said.

Lee was met at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Senadin branch on Saturday after attending a briefing session with some 20 members of two school bus associations and two Miri taxi associations on the financial assistance provided by the government to association members who were badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said they could apply and submit their names via his ministry’s website at http://mot.sarawak.gov.my/.

Meanwhile, Miri City School Buses Association chairman Samad Alip lauded the state government for the assistance.

“Most of us were badly affected by the pandemic. Since the first movement control order on March 18, our members could not operate as everything was halted and their incomes were totally ‘zero’,” he said.

He revealed that most of their members are facing financial problems such as delay in paying for their vehicle loans as they have no other alternative income.
