BETONG: Bukit Sadok should be equipped with more facilities to attract visitors and tourists alike.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Bukit Sadok had its own history and kept various secrets.

“But it does not have adequate facilities to attract tourists to the area.

“Through the agropolitan project of Bukit Sadok the area will be developed as a tourist destination and becoming another icon for the Betong Division,” he said.

Uggah said this when speaking at a community dinner at Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall in Betong yesterday evening.

He therefore hoped Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari to give full attention to the matter in order to make Bukit Sadok an iconic tourist centre in Betong Division, especially more so with the planned construction of an airport there in the near future.

In the meantime, Uggah also expected the state government to increase the number of community leaders, especially Chinese Temenggong and Pemanca among the Malays.

Among other things, the Bukit Saban state assemblyman called for a second coastal road network from Sri Aman to Betong to be diverted to Betong Town.

“According to the original plan, the road is not entering the town of Betong. Therefore, I appeal for both the coastal road network up to Betong next to Spaoh.

“Residents expect a closer relationship with the coastal road to facilitate the daily business and attract more visitors,” he added.
