Aid for education should not be restricted, and the development of new schools as well as the Mara Technical Training Centre (Giatmara) in Serian should be expedited.

A comfortable and joyful atmosphere for the children could be provided by the government, John Ilus (GPS-Bukit Semuja) noted.

He added that his side had contributed to the construction of schools’ halls, playgrounds, drainage systems, and many other amenities in the area.

“We are always ready to help make teaching and learning more comfortable and ensure safety and making the school atmosphere more enjoyable.

“However, we have received instructions or information from local schools and the Education Office that we are not permitted to do so again without the ministry’s knowledge, notification, and consent.

“Hence, we are making the call so that this issue should be refined and simplified so that aid for schools is not limited,” he said this.

John who is Bukit Semuja assemblyman said this during a debate in support of the Supply Bill (2023) and motion to refer the Resolution of the Development Expenditure Budget for 2023 on the fourth day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session yesterday.

On the same note, he also inquired about the status of the construction of SMK Serian No.2 and SK Sri Sadong, both of which were approved a few years ago.

Aside from the two projects that have yet to begin, he inquired about the development of the new Giatmara Serian.

“The government granted a lot of land in the name of Giatmara Serian in 2011, and we ask that the authorities take necessary action so that the Giatmara Serian, can have its own centre that is more contemporary, conducive, and safe,” he said.
