SRI AMAN: The Pencil project which has been around since 2015 can be adopted nationwide as a major educational product.
Nor Hizwan Ahmad, a political secretary to the Housing and Local Government Minister said the Pencil project founded by Norina Umoi Utot since 2015 in Sri Aman can be adopted by other states as an educational product for the benefit of children.
“I believe that the Pencil project founded by Norina can now move forward to realise its mission and vision, especially involving early education and primary schools in the rural areas.
“This effort is important in providing awareness on the importance of children’s education ranging from preschools to inculcating the spirit of science-thirst and exploring the new world in the 21st century education,” he said.
Nor Hizwan added that he was fully supportive of the development and suggested that the concept of pencil writing offers education to the children in the future and will not cease.
“I can see that the prospect of this Pencil project can be further expanded and promoted nationwide but it requires sponsorship from various parties to make it successful.
“Sri Aman has proven the success of the pencil project which was implemented four years ago. It also received many invitations to deliver educational motivational talks in longhouses, schools and Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) around Sri Aman during the school holidays,” he said.
Besides, delivering motivational talks, the project also included the handing over of 2B pencil sets to primary school children in Sri Aman areas.
“The Pencil project is indeed committed to helping alleviate the burden of parents of underprivileged families and having many children in school,” he said.
On the application for infrastructure and facilities in schools, Nor Hizwan said the school concerned has to submit a written request to the Housing and Local Government Ministry for its further action.
During the event, Nor Hizwan and Norina, PKR’s Sri Aman candidate in GE14, presented donations in the form of stationery from the Pencil project to 70 students of SK Martin, Lachau.
