FAZZRUDIN Abdul Rahman (GPS-Tupong) has called on the state government to expedite the appointment of a new contractor for the delayed Jalan Matang expansion project.

He said the 2019 project in his constituency was halted after the contractor failed to implement the project and subsequent termination of contract.

“I request that the appointment of a new contractor be expedited and ensure that the right contractor can complete the project quickly for the safety of road users.

“When this project is completed, it will smoothen traffic flows towards the Emart Matang roundabout. I would also like to request that a shallow underpass be built at this roundabout to avoid traffic congestion,” he said during debate time at the august House on Monday (May 23).

Fazzrudin also alluded to issues of late delivery of houses due to the financial problems of developers in housing areas under his constituency, such as Taman Sri Kenyalang.

“We are aware that an agreement has been made between the buyer and the developer and the buyer can take action through a tribunal or court but what is important for the buyers is for them to move in and own the houses.

“I urge the state government to look at methods such as funds and loan systems that can help developers to complete their housing projects. Not for the sake of helping them profit but for the sake of the buyers,” he added.

Fazzrudin also pointed out that it was high time for the Tapak Semarak in Pinang Jaya to be upgraded and rebuilt since its completion in the 80’s.

“Construction should take into account the ecology of digital and traditional business. We strengthen the infrastructure of small time hawkers and, at the same time, provide space to grow their businesses through digital technology.”

He noted that the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds for his constituency had also managed to mitigate the issue of soil erosion in Kampung Matang Batu 10 through the construction of retaining walls along its riverbank.

“But there are many more retaining walls that need to be built. The estimated construction cost of all these retaining walls is approximately RM5 million. I request the relevant ministries to include the development of this project in their planning,” he said.
