KUCHING: Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Sarawak Branch chairman Datuk Seri Victor Hii hopes that sufficient notice would be given to factories so that they are able to prepare accordingly.

“The less than 24 hours notice on compliance with the new standard operating procedures (SOPs) is too short for industries to reschedule their workforce,” he said, while supporting the government’s efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I just hope that ample notice would be given to the industries on the new SOPs.

“The less than 24 hours notice has certainly complicated efforts by manufacturers to comply. Not to mention, ad-hoc new rulings by some regions in Sarawak have also affected our members’ operations.”

“Any new SOPs should be practical and well thought through before implementation.

“Nevertheless, Sarawak FMM urges members and businesses to do their utmost to adapt to rapid changes due to the pandemic by identifying alternative working arrangements for their employees, reimagining business-as-usual and to comply with labour laws for the continued wellbeing and safety of everyone,” he reminded.
