MIRI: The Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (DUBS) Miri has suggested six initiatives that should be in the federal government’s election manifesto for the coming 15th General Election.

These initiatives, it said, would empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

They are as follows:

  • Putting a standard that needs to be followed in terms of the minimum payment in the tender committee of government agencies.
  • Returning the role of some government agencies such as SME Corporation Malaysia to grant-giving agencies.
  • Re-examining the role of overlapping agencies in providing training, grants and so forth.
  • Giving focus to entrepreneurs in the states or rural areas with fewer entrepreneurship benefits.
  • To be more “strategic centric” in product sales platform application development or entrepreneur development as inter-agency cooperation is better than moving in a silo.
  • Providing loan accessibility to SMEs including expediting their loan approvals.

“In less than a month, Malaysians will elect another government that is expected to be more stable and mature to lead Malaysia in a more glorious direction,” said DUBS Miri chairman Mohammad Hafidz Rohani.

He said, with the current economic uncertainty, small and medium traders had expressed their worries.

“With the Ringgit’s value weakening against the greenback (USD) and Singapore Dollar, the situation is worrying because our purchasing power is shrinking,” he said.
