BETONG: The high vaccination rate in Sarawak can contribute to the high voter turnout for the 12th Sarawak Election, Dr Bolhan Budeng believes.

However, the Persatuan Warga Islam Saribas (Perwaris) chairman said in order to win the hearts of the people, election campaign ambassadors should intensify their strategies.

“The Election Commission (EC) as well as the contesting parties should work together to attract voters to fulfil their responsibilities such as by approaching voters in person.

“Use a voter-friendly approach. Also, make the most of today’s technology – send them messages via social media platforms on why they should fulfil their duties as voters.”

He was asked earlier about efforts to ensure that voters go to the polls on Dec 18.

Elaborating further, Bolhan said more voters could be approached using the available voter list for each constituency, and this should be done in groups.

At the same time, he was also confident that apart from working to increase the turnout, the relevant parties should also take into account measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“All parties must comply with the standard operating procedures finalised by the EC and the Ministry of Health.”

Bolhan added that he hoped the people would choose their people’s representative wisely.
