KUCHING: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei has urged the state government to reinstate English medium schools in Sarawak.

He said back in the 70s, Sarawak was the only state in the country to have English-medium schools.

In line with this, he urged the state government to back a proposal by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak for English-medium schools to be reinstated.

This would then enable students in the state to have choices on which medium to pick, he said in a press statement issued today.

“At the moment, we have Bahasa Malaysia-medium and Chinese-medium secondary schools but not English-medium ones. Parents and students should be offered the option on English-medium school,” he added.
