THE protem committee of the Community Rehabilitation Centre (Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti, or PPDK) in Simunjan has been urged to expedite its registration.

Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Razi Sitam said that his ministry does not have plans to construct a PPDK in the area.

Instead, he said, it would be initiated by the local community, subject to the approval of the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Razi said a PPDK could operate on rented premises or existing authorised facilities.

“I was told that the local community in Simunjan had formed a protem committee for the PPDK.

“As such, I recommended that the protem committee hold a meeting as soon as possible to facilitate the registration of the PPDK in Simunjan,” he said in a reply to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris during question time today.

Although the establishment of the PPDK was driven by the local community, he said the government does provide assistance, adding that the government would offer financial aid for the monthly operational expenses of the PPDK, including an allowance of RM1,500 for supervisors, RM1200 for officers, and RM150 for trainees.

Additionally, RM500 would be allocated for utilities, while rental costs should not exceed RM3,000.

“This financial aid would be disbursed annually upon the signing of a federal financial assistance agreement for the PPDK between both parties,” he said.
