Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil

KUCHING: There is a pressing need to upgrade and repair the 40-year-old health clinic in Beluru, said Local Government and Housing assistant minister, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.

He hoped that the clinic, now classified as Type 6 due an average of 80 visiting patients per day, would be upgraded to either Type 5 or even Type 4 to increase its average daily visitors.

“It is my hope that the Health Ministry will consider upgrading the clinic to Type 5 or Type 4 to improve the quality of health services in line with the status of Beluru as a district.

“In the meantime, it is hoped that repair works can commence soon,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Sept 5).

For the record, a Type 4 health clinic would have an average daily visitor of up to 300 patients while a Type 5 health clinic would have up to 150 patients.

Earlier on Saturday, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang visited the health clinic at the invitation of Penguang, who is Marudi assemblyman.

“We are fortunate to have him and for him to listen to a briefing by the clinic and the Sarawak Health Department,” said Penguang.

Also present during the visit by Aaron were political secretary to the Chief Minister, Alexander Asing, Beluru district officer, Alfred Geling, Marudi District Council chairman, Edward Mendai and other dignitaries.
